Government in exile

In my role with the Centre for Opposition Studies I'm this week at the Labour Party conference- an unusual experience for me, but plenty of familiar faces with Labour friends of mine plus the travelling media circus and other external people. Last night a former colleague got me into the New Statesman party, where new Leader Ed Miliband spoke. He got a warm but not overwhelming reception, and actually seemed quite nervous. The big story is still his defeated brother and whether he will serve in the Shadow Cabinet or walk away. After his barnstorming speech this morning he has certainly got many delegates thinking 'if only' and has set a high bar for the new Leader's speech tomorrow.
