Raynsford puts in the knife
If Gordon Brown does fall victim to assassination by his own side, his political downfall seems increasingly likely to resemble the plot of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, where each of the suspects stabs the victim once, so no-one can tell who delivered the fatal blow.

This morning it's the turn of our local Greenwich & Woolwich MP, Nick Raynsford, to bloody his dagger. A story in the Daily Telegraph has noted his remarks in an article for the New Statesman that "no one can doubt that Labour is in a deep hole". Pointedly, he draws a parallel with the Conservative government in 1990, when bad opinion polls and by-election results led MPs to dump the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. What could he possibly mean?
