Torches and Tibet

Today's Olympic torch relay has seen huge pro-Tibet protests across London, most of them peaceful. I am now at the Greenwich event at the Dome where the torch will arrive shortly. There are a crowd of protesters here too, but it looks like the police are being sensible and allowing them to stand their ground. I think it's so important the shocking human rights abuses by the Chinese government are brought to worldwide attention, but it was right also not to cancel the relay. The coverage of the demonstrations will hopefully send a message to China that with the eyes of the world on them things have to change.
