There can't be many situations which compel you to stand near your place of work with tens of thousands of people, crushed against a metal barrier waiting hours for a clock to strike. I did this eight years ago for the Millenium, and it was hectic then. This feels worse!
At least on that occasion we could wave to Betty Boothroyd, who was having a party in her official residence. This time there are few signs of celebration over in Speaker's House, but it's still early I suppose. Happy New Year, anyway!
