We will remember them

Remembrance Sunday, and as The Queen led tributes to the fallen, in Eltham we gathered at the war memorial to remember local victims of armed conflicts. This year, there was added sadness with the news of a local serviceman from Eltham killed in action just a few days ago. In a scene similar to those taking place all over the country, the Mayor was joined by the Leader of the Council, the Leaders of the Conservative and Liberal Democrat groups, representatives of the services and veterans for the wreath-laying and two-minute silence. This was followed by a simple but moving service in the parish Church, with a sermon from the Bishop of Woolwich. As a military Borough, it really is important we fully recognise how much we owe to the soldiers, sailors and airmen of yesterday and today. We Will remember them.
