Yet more revelations about the Dome (sorry, the "O2"). The Evening Standard has established from Freedom of Information requests that John Prescott did discuss the casino bid with Phillip Anszhutz, after all (the story can also be seen on the Daily Mail's website here). Many people won't be greatly surprised, but with hard evidence now available, the danger of Greenwich's bid being further damaged is increased, not to mention the danger of the decision facing legal challenge if it does go Greenwich's way.

Meanwhile the enigmatic and mischievious bloggers over at GreenwichWatch claim that the development has had its environmentally-friendly systems removed for reasons of cost. Not great timing (if true), with the Stern report having just been published warning of the scale of the problems facing the world.

Extraordinary scenes in the Commons yesterday, with the Speaker interrupting David Cameron at PMQs to make a controversial ruling that it is not in order to ask the Prime Minister who he backs as his successor, as this is a Labour Party matter. If you're not a parliamentary geek and missed it, you can see the whole noisy mess here

David Cameron was clearly as stunned as everyone else by the bizarre decision, and he has since made known how uncomfortable he is with the precedent it seems to set. The question of who is going to be the next PM, and whether they have the confidence of the current incumbant, is clearly a matter of legitimate concern, and should be able to be discussed in the Commons by the Leader of the Opposition. David Cameron set out his view after the spat on his "Webcameron" blog.

Clarification is certainly going to be needed on what can and cannot be discussed, as (to be kind) the Speaker's logic wasn't absolutely clear. The only thing that is certain at the moment is that Speaker Martin's judgement is now being increasingly questioned on all sides, and it would not be surprising if speculation about his retirement increases further from now on.
